My Story
After interviewing and working with well over 200 small businesses and creatives in Tottenham, across London and beyond I was inspired to find a new way to support them.
I founded and ran my own online & print mag, Discovering Tottenham (DT), from 2016 until the end of 2020. In 2018, I set up Hazel Brown Creative to publish DT and an online platform I launched called Women’s Music News (WMN). I learnt a hell of a lot along the way and built the following from scratch for both publications (DT started as an Instagram profile!) It was a huge challenge but I’m very proud of what I achieved.
During this time, I wanted to find a way to utilise my skills to support small businesses with their own marketing and communications so I closed the magazines to enable me to focus solely on providing marketing, social media, content and website support to small businesses.
Due to launching and running DT & WMN, I realised I have a passion for storytelling. I love creating content, finding out about what others do and after meeting so many entrepreneurs and small businesses in recent years I was inspired to push forwards with my own business in order to support them.

More about Hazel Brown Creative
With 15 years of experience in the media and creative industries I’m well placed to help your small business improve its marketing & communications strategy and online presence.
In recent years, I founded and ran two of my own magazines and built their following from the ground up. Both aim to be positive, inclusive platforms that shine a light on diverse and creative communities. Discovering Tottenham is an online and print magazine that explores local organisations and businesses and the people behind them. Women’s Music News is an online platform featuring women, trans and non-binary people in all roles of the music industry.
As Discovering Tottenham founder, I appeared on the Robert Elms Show on BBC Radio London on 4th April 2018 and was interviewed for the website Women In Tottenham in March 2018 (Tottenham Is A Place To Discover). I appeared on the Robert Elms show again in December 2020 to discuss the Haringey Council and GLA funded project, Made By Tottenham.
Another highlight: a clip of a video interview with an artist, I did back in 2017, was recently shown as part of an exhibition, in the Saatchi Gallery in Chelsea in London. (The exhibition was organised by Hepworth Wakefield and co-curated by Dr Anna Douglas and Dr Kerry Harker. The video clip was part of a programme of 8 short clips stitched together to form a 20 minute film by the curatorial researchers.)
I have a BA Hons Journalism degree from LCC, completed two short courses in Digital Marketing, passed my PRINCE2 Practitioner Project Management qualification in 2019 and have experience working with HTML5 and CSS.
As a freelancer, some of the busnesses I’ve worked with include: Red Bull, Haringey Council, Hackney Brewery, Real Al Company, London Dance Academy, Zhero Logistics, Gaunson Creative Studios, numerous Haringey-based businesses and not-for-profits Haringey Shed, LIFT Festival and LYST (now Launch It). During full time employment I’ve worked with clients including Adobe CC, Google, IBM and Salesforce.
I love learning about small businesses, finding out their story and getting stuck into a new challenge – why not send over your brief?
Ecologi
As I am a sole trader, I decided to sign up personally to Ecologi. Sustainability and looking after the planet is more important than ever so I wanted to give something back. Each month a small amount of my money goes towards Ecologi’s tree planting and carbon offsetting projects. Working towards a more carbon neutral world. Each time I take on a new client, I will buy more trees for my forest which gets more trees planted in their real-world tree planting projects and contributes to Ecologi’s carbon offsetting programme.
