So it’s looking like Christmas will be a little different this year. With uncertainty around whether it’s safe to spend it with our loved ones and family members in person and people not being able to shop how they have done in recent times, you might be feeling a bit unsure on how to approach the season. However, with an increasing number of businesses boosting their online presence, it’s important to have a plan for Christmas themed content. It’s time to get festive with your creativity!
As people have more time at home, they may be researching Christmas ideas earlier
It’s never too early to start thinking about Christmas. People are probably more stressed than usual so don’t overload them, but if your business can offer them an easy, relaxed solution to that Christmas shopping panic, all the better.
Inspire your customers – is there anything unique you can offer them?
Rather than trying to sell your latest product or item, what else could you do to create a buzz? What do you offer that’s unique? Think about the ways in which you can add value to your offering.
Perhaps you could set an interactive social media challenge or competition encouraging people to tag your business? Think about how you can get people engaged, give them something to think about and distract them from the latest restrictions. This will help to drive traffic (or potential customers) to your website and increase awareness of your brand.
Focus on the end user (your customers), not the hard sell
In tough times, it’s easy to just focus on the money. However, it’s still really important to think about the needs of the customer first. Of course sales are what keep you going, but don’t forget your audience need to get a little extra something out of it too. Is there something can you offer, in addition to what you would normally, that would mean a lot to a customer? With many people having a little less cash to spend at the moment, think about what might encourage them to decide to spend their hard earned ££ with you.
Target local
With Covid-19 restrictions still pretty tight, people are much less likely to travel beyond their local area. At the same, people are more environmentally conscious so it makes total sense to target potential customers in your area to reduce the carbon footprint, especially if delivering. If you are set up to enable customers to visit in person, they may still be hesitant to use public transport so won’t mind a gentle nudge that helps them to find products and services available on their doorstep.
Use a social media scheduling app to help you plan
Planning your content in advance is a good idea (even if you still can’t bear to think about Christmas, it’s so important to look ahead and stay prepared for what might come at you). To ensure you create the best quality content – have a rough idea of when you want to push it out across your various channels. You don’t have to know every single thing you might post (sometimes posting in the moment also works), but have a good plan to keep you consistent and consider scheduling posts using an app in advance on a weekly – or monthly – basis.
